EDUCATION & TRAINING

2021 – 2024 Postdoctoral Fellow, University of California, Berkeley

                           Advisor: Michelle C. Y. Chang

2016 – 2021 Ph.D. Chemistry, Yale University

                           Advisor: Scott J. Miller

2012 – 2016 B.A. Chemistry, English Minor, Connecticut College

                           Advisor: Timo V. Ovaska

A native of the Hudson Valley area in New York, Elizabeth received her B.A. from Connecticut College, with a major in Chemistry and a minor in English. While at Conn, she conducted research with Professor Stanton Ching and completed an honors thesis with Professor Timo V. Ovaska. Elizabeth then went on to pursue a Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry at Yale University under the direction of Professor Scott J. Miller. As an NSF Graduate Research Fellow, her graduate work was focused on designing and understanding how short peptides can serve as selective catalysts in reactions with pharmaceutically-relevant small molecules. Following graduate school, Elizabeth joined the chemical biology lab of Professor Michelle C. Y. Chang at the University of California, Berkeley as a Jane Coffin Childs Postdoctoral Fellow. In the Chang Lab, Elizabeth developed a strategy to biosynthetically produce analogues of peptide therapeutics.

Professor Stone returned to Connecticut to begin her independent career at Fairfield University in Fall 2024 where she focuses on teaching, research, and mentorship in the areas of organic chemistry and chemical biology.

UNDERGRADUATE
RESEARCHERS

ELEANOR FEUSTER

Researcher 2024 – Present

B.S. in Biochemistry, Class of 2027

Eleanor Feuster is from Manasquan, NJ and is majoring in Biochemistry with a Mathematics minor.  Working in the Stone Lab will allow her to deepen her understanding of what she learns in the classroom through hands-on experience.  Outside of the lab, Ellie is involved in the Women in STEM Club, Chem Club, and Bio Club.  After Fairfield, her hope is to continue to do research in the chemistry or biochemistry field.

MASON MACUCH

Researcher 2024 – Present

B.S. in Biochemistry, Class of 2028

Mason is from Lakeville, Massachusetts and is majoring in Biochemistry with a minor in Spanish. Working in the lab enhances his excitement for chemistry and the application of research techniques. Outside of the lab, Mason is a member of the Fairfield University Dance Ensemble and the Club Sailing Team.

KACEY MCGORRY

Researcher 2024 – Present

B.S. in Biohemistry, Class of 2027

Kacey McGorry is from Port Jefferson, NY and is a Biochemistry major with a Management minor. Working in the lab allows her to explore unique applications of chemistry and gives her opportunities to widen her knowledge of research methods. In addition to doing research with Professor Stone, Kacey competes in triathlons and is a member of the Women’s Club Lacrosse team at Fairfield!

KATELYN WIEHE

Researcher 2025 – Present

B.S. in Biochemistry, Class of 2027

Kate is from Pleasant Valley, New York and is majoring in Biochemistry and minoring in both Music and Health Studies. After Fairfield, she hopes to attend medical school to become a physician specializing in emergency medicine. Being a part of the Stone Lab gives her opportunities to grow as an applicant for future endeavors by experiencing a unique look into the understanding and connection of organic molecules that contribute to medicine. Beyond participating in research, Kate is a part of the music ensembles and the club softball team at Fairfield.
